@Austria Pfanner 🌎 🚽 The people of Lobitos, Peru are in need of a solution to the sanitation issues they have faced for years. With an abandoned wastewater system, pools of waste have formed around the city. About 5% of the population does not have access to a working toilet. Other problems within Lobitos, such as unreliable water and energy sources, have an impact on the sanitation solutions that will work for their community. Our team at EcoScope wants to provide a solution to these issues in a way that incorporates the community’s ideas and empowers residents to solve their own problems. The needs of the people of Lobitos were kept in mind throughout this project, and their ideas for solving these problems were the inspiration for every part of our design. Our final and recommended design will aim to provide a public bathroom in an optimal location, so that every member of Lobitos has access to a working toilet, and this is just the first step. The second phase of our project will start a company based in Lobitos, whose purpose is to build toilets in the homes of Lobitos and expand from there. Not only does this initiative aim to solve the sanitation problems initially stated, but will empower the community members of Lobitos, and connect them to a project that will inevitably change their lives for the better. Our initiative aims to reduce the wastewater pools in the city, rid residents of their practice of open defecation, and improve public health as well as the towns aesthetics to hopefully increase tourism. Improving tourism and adding jobs will boost Lobitos' economy, and provide individual community members with a steady income. The floorpan of the proposed community facility, with the public restrooms, as well as the design of the composting toilets to be used are included in this post.
